From the Slot

SUMMER 2009
Greetings Saints,

It has been some time since I have scribed a “From the Slot” edition to the whole organization. This type of communication was always intended more as a State of the Union vs. passing information along so over the next few paragraphs that will be my intent.

I would be amiss if I sit from my seat and said things were perfect because in the best of organizations that can’t always be true. But I would also state that because of these imperfections it doesn’t mean that we are not grateful or proud of those that participate in this organization from the leadership to the small sibling waiting in the wings to lace up. Ultimately, the goal is to create a fantastic experience not just for the players but their families and friends that participate as volunteers or fans in the stands.

The following paragraphs will address a few key traits I believe help create and sustain a strong organization:

Volunteerism: We wouldn’t exist without it. One thing we have done and will continue to hang our helmets on is getting folks involved. The organization wants to see more folks getting involved at the most logical level which is the team. We can always use team managers, timekeepers and scorekeepers to help reduce the wear and tear of our volunteer coaches. We will conduct sessions to help those learn the task so the same folks are not always tagged. We have also created committees to allow more of the membership to participate and have a hand in the direction of the organization in regards to areas such as community exposure, spirit wear and fundraising. Additionally, we have two new members on the board that will bring fresh ideas to the direction of the organization.

Conduct: The organization’s position on conduct is to provide an environment of integrity and respect for the rules and regulations of the game as well as providing a safe and healthy environment to all those that participate in and enjoy the game. To help continue to grow and develop our organization, we have tasked ourselves to develop a policy that will provide guidance in this regard to which all members will adhere. This policy will be available at registration and will be explained in more detail at that time.

Financial: We have all witnessed the changes in the current economic times and our organization is not immune to it. Our goal will continue to be able to provide a quality hockey product at reasonable rate. We recognize that we can’t continue to raise rates to combat growing costs. One of the committees we formed will research what is available to us in grants and scholarships as well as fundraising. It will take the effort of the whole membership to sustain and grow the organization.

As you can see we have been busy in the off season. I want to thank all of those that have taken the step to take a more active role in the growth of the organization. There is a great deal of work that goes on behind the scenes and we need them all to be successful. More importantly I want to thank all those folks that have entrusted the organization to provide a great place to play the game of hockey.

I look forward to seeing everybody at the rink over the summer and we anticipate registration will open near the end of July.
